Experience a four-day journey through the most scenic areas of Southern Africa starting in Pretoria and ending at the magnificent Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
This adventure begins with the train’s departure from Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria. Travel north through Warmbaths (Bela-Bela), named for its mineral waters, and Nylstroom (Modimolle), christened by the Voortrekkers as the source of the Nile River as the town’s river happened to be north-flowing. Cross the Tropic of Capricorn and Limpopo River towards Bulawayo, the second city of Zimbabwe, capital of Matabeleland, and industrial capital of the country.
Travel along one of the world’s longest stretches of straight railway line – 114 km – before traversing Hwange National Park, a rich and diverse wildlife sanctuary where a game drive excursion is enjoyed. Arrive at the incomparable Victoria Falls on the mighty Zambezi River where this sojourn ends. The surrounding areas offer travelers many recreational opportunities, including cruises, whitewater rafting, as well as superb game viewing and photo safaris.
This tour is also available in reverse. Please note that depending upon railway capacity, this journey could be routed northwards through Beitbridge and Zimbabwe.
After checking in at Rovos Rail's Station in Pretoria, you depart on your train journey at 09:30 am with the train traveling in a northerly direction.
Lunch is served in the dining cars. Travel through Warmbaths (Bela-Bela) – so named for its mineral waters – and Nylstroom, christened by the Voortrekkers as the source of the Nile River as the town’s river happened to be north flowing. Pass the edge of the escarpment where the Highveld drops precipitously.
Enjoy afternoon tea and dinner as the train travels to Mafikeng for Botswana border formalities and overnight. Dinner is served as the train crosses the Limpopo River to Beitbridge.
Today is at leisure. Breakfast and lunch are served as the train travels towards Bulawayo: the second city of Zimbabwe, capital of Matabeleland, and industrial capital of the country. Dinner is served in the dining cars en route to Mpopoma for overnight.
Breakfast is served as the train departs Mpopoma. Lunch is then enjoyed while traveling along the eastern edge of Hwange Park along one of Africa’s longest stretches of straight railway line – 114 km.
You arrive at Kennedy Siding for a game drive at The Hide in Hwange National Park. Dinner is served in the dining cars en route to Thompsons Junction for the overnight stop.
Breakfast this morning is enjoyed while traveling towards the Zambezi River. You arrive at journey’s end in Victoria Falls at 10 am. You will disembark the train and continue with your onward travel arrangements.
