Nestled into the flank of the Auob river on the western border of the park you will find Mata Mata with a border gate to Namibia. You will most probably see giraffes in the surrounding area where they have adapted to the surrounding thorny dune bushveld. Mata Mata is the smallest of the traditional camps and offers a range of accommodation types to suit diverse preferences
Accommodation
Camp sites all have a power point with a braai area and shared water tap. There are communal ablutions for all camping guests as well as laundry tubs and ironing facilities (no irons provided. Campsites are allocated on first come first serve, you can either pitch your tent close to the fence or under one of the magical thorn trees. Note, internal roads are not suitable for sedan vehicles.
- Two-bed Chalets has one bedroom with 2 single beds, bathroom with toilet and shower. It has a fully equipped kitchen with hotplate, sink, utensils and fridge and a fan. Each unit has it’s own braai area. There is no electricity between 21h30 and 5h00 daily. During the day the camp runs on generators. Note, internal roads are not suitable for sedan vehicles.
- Six-bed Chalet has 2 bedrooms, one with double bed and the other with 2 single beds, 2 beds in the lounge. The unit has air-conditioning as well as a fan. It has a fully equipped kitchen with hotplate, sink, utensils and fridge. Each unit has it’s own braai area. There is no electricity between 21h30 and 5h00 daily. During the day the camp runs on generators. Note, internal roads are not suitable for sedan vehicles.
- Two-bed Riverfront Chalet has a bedroom with 2 single beds, en-suite bathroom with shower. A fully equipped kitchen including a fridge/freezer, lounge with DSTV (limited channels). A magical patio with a braai area overlooking the Auob river bed. There is no electricity between 21h30 and 5h00 daily. During the day the camp runs on generators. Note, internal roads are not suitable for sedan vehicles.
- Four-bed Riverfront Chalet has two bedrooms, one with 2 single beds and the other with a double bed, en-suite bathroom with shower. A fully equipped kitchen including a fridge/freezer, lounge with DSTV (limited channels). A magical patio with a braai area overlooking the Auob river bed. Activities & Facilities
Sunrise and sunset drives are available at Mata Mata, enquiries need to be made at reception. A minimum of 2 guests. Drives are not always available due to availability of staff members, the schedule for when drives are going out is available at reception.
The camp offers a swimming pool, a shop which stocks basic commodities, laundry tubs and ironing facilities (no irons) in the camping areas, a Hide at the water hole, limited freezing facilities (too small to be used by tourists), and fuel station (Unleaded and diesel). There is NO cell phone reception at this camp.
