SANPARKS - Bontebok National park - Lang Elsies Kraal Rest Camp

Bontebok National Park forms part of the gorgeous and world-renowned Cape Floral Kingdom, a natural spectacle of beautiful flora now designated as a Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO. 'Lang Elsie' has been designed according to the area's overriding principals of functionality with minimal impact - situated near the Breede River, this self-catering accommodation is a welcome and unobtrusive part of the surrounding environment, clean, quiet, and friendly.

Accommodation

Caravan and tented camping sites, hosting up to a maximum of six people each. The main camping area is situated behind the chalets. These site have powerpoint, communal kitchen and ablutions. The campsites along the Breede river do not have power only a tap for water. For the use of the ablution facilities guest need to walk up to the camping area.

Four-bed Chalet has two single beds and a double sleeper couch in an open plan area. The sleeper couch is not suitable for 2 adults. Bathroom with toiet and shower. Fully equipped kitchen and a private deck with braai and extraordinary views
Six-bed Family Cottage has 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with two single beds. Open plan kitchen, lounge and dining area with a sleeper couch (not suitable for 2 adults) Bathroom with toilet and shower. Fully equipped kitchen and a private deck with braai and extraordinary views

Activities & Facilities

Activities available to guests include hiking, mountain biking, and walking trails, game viewing (self-drive), birding, and river activities.
River activities:
Swimming can be done in the rest camp and at Die Stroom
Angling, you need a valid angling permit(which is available for purchase at reception), own equipment
Canoeing and kayaking (no power boats allowed), own equipment

Bontebok facilities include picnic sites and braai (barbecue) facilities, ablution units for day and overnight visitors, and a shop for basic commodities. Groceries and fresh produce can be purchased in Swellendam, as well as fuel.

Knowing the area we did not expect to have a great animal experience. This park attracts those who enjoy the outdoor tranquil experience. The chalets are well situated an looking over the Breede River, well equipped and very comfortable. We could have stayed another night! We saw Bontebok and Rooi Hartebeest and sat for 40 minutes watching a Secretary Bird find his dinner in the veld. That was an exceptional sighting whilst on the circle route between 6 and 7pm. The view of the Langeberg Mountains in the distance from my bed in the morning was lovely!

Our stay at Bontebok Park was very enjoyable and though there were not a lot of game to see, the facilities were exceptionally clean, the camp sites set out very well and the staff friendly and efficient. This has been our second camping trip at the park and we will return again and again because of the peace, the clean ablutions and the positive experience we've had. Thank you!

We enjoyed our 4 day stay. Found that wild life very few. Only saw Bontebuck and one Zebra.Also no toilet facilities at river edge camp - which is a pity.Lovely place but need some money invested to make us come back.Thank youvan Zyl family

A warning about the rough roads could be given.We found walking the most enjoyable. The bird life is very good.The flowers are very difrent.A book on the Park, giving its history should be in the shop. I found one in Swellendam.Bird and flower books would be handy.We enjoyed our two day stay and could have made it three if we had the time.

The Chalet was beautiful. The setting was amazing. The service was great. I only had one problem and that was that the road from the reception office to the chalets were in a horrible state. My poor Golf got a couple of scratches underneath and on the side of its body, but other than that there were no problems.

The accommodation was spotless and well appointed. The chalet was well stocked with crockery and cutlery. The walks were well kept and signposted and the gardens well maintained - overall it was one of the best camps and reserves we have seen for a very long time. The staff were friendly and the only drawback was they serviced the units very late in the day ( afternoons) and we told them to leave ours as we wanted to relax. They also wanted to change the towels daily which is nice but not eco-friendly and not Parks Board policy. We told the staff when we left what a wonderful experience we had had; the place itself is lovely (on the Breede River), the birds (50 species identified), the buck and tortoises were great - a good place to go to relax! Will definitely go again!

Pascal is a travel angel! Highly recommend him.

We started planning for our safari trip contacting a bunch of different travel advisors but Pascal's service truly stood out to us as the best in the industry. He took care of planning everything from start to finish for our very last minute honeymoon trip (literally a month out and during the busiest safari season). He is extremely meticulous and very responsive to our 100 questions. He shared first hand experiences at each of the different lodges, personal pictures and gave us solid recommendations within our budget. He hopped on a call with us initially to explain all the differences to us first time safari goers, and continued to be very flexible and patient with us as we couldn't decide! We are very excited for our trip and cannot thank Pascal enough for being our first interaction on our upcoming trip.

Very helpful even with ever changing trip!
