Rekero Camp is situated in Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve which is renowned for the Great Migration that occurs annually. The camp overlooks the Talek River migration crossing point.
What makes Rekero special is its proximity to the Talek and Mara Rivers, where all the action unfolds, with the dining area of the camp located just 150 meters from the Talek River.
Generally, during the months of July to November, the large wildebeest herds arrive from the Serengeti and gather on the banks of the river. They then plunge into the rivers, attempting to cross safely while crocodiles and other predators await their opportunity to strike.
Traditional in design, this authentic African tented camp is equipped with the comforts needed to ensure an unforgettable safari experience. To minimize the environmental impact, the camp runs completely on solar and generator power.
The camp features nine well-appointed canvas tents, each equipped with a double or twin beds, an en-suite bathroom with a traditional hot-water bucket shower and flushing toilet, a writing desk, tea and coffee-making facilities, and an enclosed verandah with comfortable deck chairs, a daybed, and views of the Talek River.
Additionally, the camp offers two family tents, each outfitted with double or twin beds, en-suite bathrooms, writing desks, tea and coffee-making facilities, and an enclosed verandah area complete with comfortable deck chairs, a daybed, and views of the Talek River and the surrounding riverine forest.
The Messi tent includes a lounge area, a dining area, and a bar.
Activities at the camp include morning and afternoon game drives in closed safari vehicles with rooftop hatches led by professional Maasai guides, horse riding, hot air balloon safaris, local village visits, and bush picnics.
The area around Rekero Camp is teeming with wildlife throughout the year, meaning guests traveling outside of the migration season can still expect to encounter a high density of wildlife, including the famous Big Five. The vicinity of the camp is also frequented by large herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as a resident lion pride.
Rekero Camp is ideal for solo travelers, couples, and families looking for an authentic tented safari experience and a prime location to witness the Great Migration.
