Nxai Pan is located on the western edge of the Nxai Pan National Park which borders with the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans in Botswana. The biggest draw to this area is the famous Baines Baobabs and the migration of thousands of zebra - the second largest animal migration in Southern Africa.
The eco-friendly camp which faces east over the open grasslands of the pans boasts 9 Thatched Units including a Family Unit that are specially designed to provide a constant and comfortable temperature throughout the year. Each suite has an en-suite bathroom with double vanities and both indoor and outdoor showers, a lounge area, fan, in-room safe, writing desk, and a viewing deck that overlooks the vast pan and the waterhole in front of the camp, where elephant are frequent visitors. The Family Unit has an additional twin-bedded bedroom. The camp facilities include a dining area, bar, lounge area, boma, laundry service, and a swimming pool.
The pans were once part of the super lake that covered much of central Botswana, including Lake Ngami and the Okavango Delta. The landscape is largely covered by grassland and dotted with clusters of umbrella acacia trees and mopane woodland to the north.
During the rains, from November to late March, the landscape changes to lush green, the pans become covered in succulent grasses which attract large herds of antelope. The area is well known for large numbers of springbok and during rainy season oryx, elephant and zebra migrate to the region. The giraffe are also often seen in the area in large herds with up to 30 in a group. These large herds attract many predators – lion, cheetah, jackal, spotted and brown hyena and sometimes the endangered wild dog and the secretive leopard.
During the rainy season, birdlife here is prolific, many species being different to what one would see in the Delta – it is definitely a birders paradise.
Activities offered at Nxai Pan are game drives, day trips to the famous Baines’ Baobabs and Khama Khama Pan, star gazing, as well as nature walks with Bushman trackers. Nxai Pan Camp is ideal for solo explorers, couples and families looking for a unique safari experience.

Outstanding Experience! (Cape Town, Sabi Sands, Vic Falls)
After attempting to book this trip myself (a couple coming from the US), I gave up and reached out to Sara from Safari.com. I told Sara what I was thinking and by the next day she had created several wonderful itineraries! Based on her suggestions, we personalized the itineraries and within 7 days I was booked and all set!! Sara was available at all times (before, during, and after the trip). We are currently heading home and we are so happy with all the bookings Sara created for us! Everything went flawlessly.
